Halloween is a holiday whose traditions vary by culture and geography, but Ireland is the country where its believed to have originated. The annual event dates back to ancient Celts, who celebrated Halloween as Samhain, or All Hallowtide, a ritual feast of the dead marking the end of summer. The Swedish celebrate the holiday honoring departed friends and relatives by lighting candles by their graves, while in Austria, you might find yourself leaving out bread and water for dearly departed souls.
